Uitwisseling IVSA Polen
Terwijl ik dit schrijf, zijn de studenten van de University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn uit Polen alweer huiswaarts gekeerd. De IVSA heeft ook dit jaar weer een geweldige uitwisseling georganiseerd.
Van 23 tot en met 28 april kwamen er twaalf studenten vanuit de Poolse diergeneeskunde faculteit in Olsztyn naar Nederland om kennis te maken met onze faculteit en het mooie Utrecht! Op de dag van aankomst werden de studenten direct ondergedompeld in de Nederlandse cultuur met pannenkoeken voor het diner en de oud-Hollandse spelletjes koekhappen en spijkerpoepen. Als toeristen naar Nederland komen, willen ze natuurlijk graag de hoofdstad Amsterdam zien, dus op de tweede dag stond er een stedentrip op de planning. De Nederlandse studenten gaven de Poolse studenten een rondleiding door de stad en we sloten af met friet en snacks uit de muur bij de FEBO! In de avond kregen we van het Solleysel bestuur nog een Kobuscursus en onder het genot van iets te veel Beerenburg ging de baravond tot in de late uurtjes door. De ochtend daarna moest iedereen weer vroeg op voor de tour door onze faculteitsgebouwen. De Tolakker kon daarin natuurlijk niet ontbreken en er zijn een aantal leuke foto’s gemaakt tussen de koeien en de schapen! We dineerden bij Florin en namen de Poolse studenten ‘s avonds mee naar Ménage à Trois. De volgende ochtend konden we gelukkig rustig bijkomen van de late avond in de botanische tuinen. We kregen nog een workshop bij pathologie en een rugbytraining door V.S.R.C.! Op donderdag was het Koningsdag en namen we de Poolse studenten, die zich allemaal netjes in het oranje hadden gekleed, mee naar de stad. We lieten ze de vrijmarkt zien en gingen naar een open festival! Op vrijdagochtend moesten we helaas alweer afscheid nemen van de lieve Polen, maar wát een week hebben we met zijn allen gehad!
Voordat de studenten naar huis zijn gegaan hebben we nog even gevraagd wat ze van de uitwisseling vonden en hoe ze Utrecht en onze faculteit hebben ervaren:
What is the reason you chose for an exchange with the faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Utrecht?
Karolina: I always wanted to see the Netherlands and I thought there is no better way to see it than doing it by exchange.
Paweł: I’m planning to work abroad after I graduate, so I wanted to see if the Netherlands could be a possible destination for me to find a job and live there.
Magda: I think we chose your faculty because it is the only one in the Netherlands and it’s big
How did you experience the exchange?
Karolina: It was amazing, I really enjoyed spending time in Utrecht and meeting great people.
Paweł: I really enjoyed it. I’ve met great people here and had a sample of what life in the Netherlands looks like.
Magda: It was fun and interesting. I learned a lot about your culture.
What did you think was the nicest/most beautiful/remarkable about our faculty?
Karolina: Probably the library with all the plastinats and preparations. It’s very impressive.
Paweł: The fact that you create a great community, almost like a family. You have huge, modern resources to study and also have a lot of practical classes.
Magda: The most remarkable was your hospitals and clinic for horses.
What did you like most about this week?
Karolina: I think Kingsday or rugby training, both were very nice experiences that I don’t get at home.
Paweł: The party on the first day of our exchange and the city tour.
Magda: Kingsday and the pathology workshop.
What is the biggest difference between our faculty and your own?
Karolina: Our faculty is smaller, especially when we look at horse and farm animal clinics.
Paweł: The amount of study resources you have and clubs/meeting rooms you have only for vet students.
Magda: The difference between our curriculum (you learn by the system not by the subject) and organization of the study plan (you have bachelor and masters).
What did you think was the biggest difference in culture between The Netherlands and Poland?
Karolina: Honestly I didn’t notice any big differences in our cultures.
Paweł: Probably being really open to new people and having a positive attitude more often.
Magda: Not eating vegetables, haha, but mostly sweet breakfast
What are you most excited about to show the Dutch students when they come to Poland?
Karolina: I am excited for them to take part in workshops and lectures we organized, especially one about plastination, since there were so many of them at your faculty.
Paweł: Our campus by the lake and late night outdoor games.
Magda: I’m most excited to show you Warsaw and Olsztyn (city generally and the Old city).
De acht Nederlandse studenten die deelnamen aan deze uitwisseling mochten in mei nog kennis gaan maken met de Poolse cultuur. Hopelijk was de week in Polen net zo onvergetelijk als de week in Nederland was!
De IVSA (International Veterinary Student Association) organiseert ieder jaar een uitwisseling met een diergeneeskunde faculteit in een ander, vaak Europees, land.
